Ugh, #2 was just as bad.

It was really frustrating. I explained to them several times no one wanted the domain but me. It never did sit well with them.

yea pretty much. I originally bought the domain through RegisterFly.com. At one point the company that had the domain lease decided to play hardball with RegisterFly and demanded a sum of money or they would not re-sign with the company.
When they did not re-sign they sent out letters to all of us that owned domains with them asking for a ridiculous amount of money (I believe mine was around $500 - which I did not have at the time) to keep the domain.
I lost the domain and have tried for years to get it back. They offered to sell it to me for as low as $15,000, and at the highest $35,000. I offered $1,000 at one point and was turned down. So after years of waiting I finally got it back for $150.
